The Best Austrian City in Italy

A Quick Visit to Trieste

Trieste VisitThere is much more to Italy than Rome, Florence, and Venice.  We do recommend visiting those three cities if you have never been to Italy before.  However, there is so much more to explore.  In between trips to Croatia, we had the opportunity to go up to Trieste, very close to the Croatia and Slovenia border. Although we spent only a short time there, we found it to be a refreshing and most enjoyable way to experience Italy.  Read about our short visit to Trieste in today's blog post.

Discovering Southern Italy's Jewish Heritage

A New Destination from Our Friends at The Heart of Southern Italy

Italy's Jewish HeritageOur dear friends, Tess and Elena have been running wonderful tours to Southern Italy for some time now.  Their company is called The Heart of Southern Italy.  Like us, they love to show small groups the real Italy, especially in Puglia, one of the most beautiful places all in Italy.  Puglia is the home of the best food in Italy and wonderful scenery.  It is far away from the throbbing crowds of Rome, Florence, and Venice.  Now they have introduced a tour The Traveling Professor highly recommends, Discovering Southern Italy's Jewish Heritage.  Read all about it in their guest blog post.

Is Rome in Ruins?

Is Rome Still Worth Visiting?

Garbage in RomeBack in February 2015, I put up a blog post called, The Rome Problem.  In it, The Traveling Professor talked about some of the problems of visiting Rome in terms of crime, harassment, trash, and public transportation.  It seems that The New York Times has noticed too. They recently published an article called "Rome in Ruins", outlining many of the same problems The Traveling Professor pointed out 4 years ago.  The problems are not limited to cities like Rome.  Paris, for instance, has many of the same problems.  However, travelers should be made aware of what they can expect the next time they visit Rome.  Check out my blog post.

Two Small Hotels in Florence

Feel Like Family at these Small Hotels

best hotels in florence italyEveryone loves to travel to Florence, Italy.  And why not?  There's David at the Accademia, the Uffizi Gallery, and lots of other wonderful places to see.  It's a great walking city with everything within 15 minutes of each other.  There are great transportation connections to wineries and other small cities in Tuscany like Lucca, Siena, and San Gimignano.  And the food!  Probably the best in all of Italy.  It's no wonder why The Traveling Professor's small group tours to Italy and Florence always fill up as soon as they are offered.  Read about my two favorite hotels in Florence in today's Italy blog post.

How to Get to Your Hotel in Venice

Your Best Options Here

small group tours to italyOne of the nice things about Venice is that it is away from it all, with winding unmarked streets, pedestrian traffic only.  One of the bad things about Venice is that it is away from it all, with winding sometimes unmarked streets, pedestrian traffic only.  There is no taxi or car service within Venice. The Traveling Professor has a lot of experience with his small group tours to Italy and today, he gives his advice on getting to your hotel from the Venice train station or Marco Polo airport.
