Hotel al Piave:  Close to it all, but on a quiet, typical Venetian alley way, is the family owned and family run Hotel al Piave.  The Traveling Professor has stayed here on his small group tours to Venice.  He has also sent many independent travel clients to this elegantly decorated and stylish hotel.  There are less than 30 rooms and that does not take away from the elegance or comfort of this classic Venice hotel.     Expect larger than normal rooms, classic marble floors, winding staircases, heavy drapery and full-size bathrooms.   Ilaria as well as the rest of her family takes good care of travelers who come to this gracious Venetian hotel.  There are also plenty of good restaurants in the vicinity.  The website is https://www.hotelalpiave.com/

Hotel American Dinesen:  A 4-star canal-side beauty located near the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in the less touristy Dorsudoro area of Venice.  The Traveling Professor frequently stays here on his small group tours to Venice.  Again, it is a family owned and run hotel.  When we arrive at the Dinesen, we are often greeted by Marco himself as he reaches out and helps us out of the water taxi and escorts us to the hotel.  Rooms are elegant and airy.  The breakfast is top-notch and a the best Negroni in Venice can be made right at the bar.  Our small group tour travelers love this hotel.  The website is  https://www.hotelamerican.it/

Hotel Flora:  Near St. Mark's Square is the family-owned and run Hotel Flora.  It too is a classic Venetian hotel with a limited number of rooms.   Although there is a splendid courtyard with a soothing fountain, I avoid getting a room adjoining it because the echo of chatter of travelers sharing their day's experience might interrupt your dreams of a day in Venice.  The breakfast room, with it's low ceiling, classic paintings, heavy drapery whisks you back to old Venice of years ago.  We also have use the Flora Hotel on our small group tours to Italy and Venice.  The website is https://www.hotelflora.it/
