Detailed 8-Day, 7-Night Itinerary Starting in Cusco

Day 1
Arrive in vibrant Cusco, Peru from your home city.  Our private limo service will pick you up at the airport, regardless of arrival time.    This ancient city of the Incas is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Acclimate to the 11,200 foot altitude with a brief walking tour of the city and a local market like never seen before.   That evening, enjoy world-renowned Peruvian cuisine.  Breakfast included.
 
Day 2
A full day, professionally guided, private VIP tour of Cusco and the surrounding area.   See the Main Square, Cathedral, and Qoricancha (Sun Temple). The tour drives along the outskirts of the city up to famous fortress of Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay ruins.  Breakfast included.
 
Day 3
Journey by train through the heart of the Sacred Valley along the twisting whitewater Urubamba River into the cloud forest of Peru. We take a private van from our hotel in Cusco to Ollantaytambo.  We board a train for a 2 hour adventure to the outpost town of Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.  An in-depth professionally guided tour of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu is on the day’s itinerary.   Breakfast and dinner included.
 
Day 4
Arise early for a guided hike along the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate for an awe-inspiring sunrise at Machu Picchu led by your guide.  Overlooking the mystical citadel from the Sun Gate is perhaps the most scenic vista in the world.  It is an experience to talk about and show photos to everyone you know for years to come.  In the afternoon, relax or explore the flowers, fauna, butterflies, birds and other wildlife on private nature trails.  Breakfast and dinner included.  We are one of the few tours that spends 2 nights at Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu).
 
Day 5
It’s back on the train to Ollantaytambo for a tour of the Sacred Valley.   We’ll visit unbelievable ancient ruins, have a memorable lunch at a spa on the Urubamba River and visits sites in the Sacred Valley on our way back to Cusco to spend the night.  Breakfast and lunch included.
 
Days 6-7
We depart for our Amazon Jungle/Rain Forest adventure in the morning and fly to Puerto Maldonado.  Our 3-day, 2-night itinerary includes  

  • Inkaterra Amazonica Reserva:  a highly regarded all-inclusive eco-lodge in the Peruvian Amazon rain forest.  Luxury accommodations with all meals included.  Most excursions are included, but some are at an additional cost.
  • Excursions: Upon arrival, there will be a short orientation.  Each traveler chooses from up to 12 different excursions of varying difficulty levels with a professional guide at the lead.  This is the full first-class jungle/rain forest experience.   Excursions include birding, river tours, astronomy, rain forest by day or night, medicinal plants, canoeing, fishing, native plants/flowers, and more.  Before the trip, we will detail each excursion so you can pick the best programs for you.  For a description of excursions (some available seasonally), click HERE.

Day 8
Depart Puerto Maldonado for home.  We leave the Amazon after lunch (not included).

Optional Lima Add-On: Add two nights in Lima, starting Saturday, November 7 for $699 per person, double occupancy.  Includes 2 nights at the 4- star Jose Antonia Deluxe Hotel in central Lima, guided tour of Lima, airfare from Lima to Cusco.

Important Notes
  • Travelers are strongly encouraged to obtain health and emergency evacuation insurance prior to departure.   
  • Travelers must be in excellent health and able to trek difficult terrain at high altitudes. 
  • Travelers are strongly advised to consult with a physician to assess their ability to participate on this tour and to obtain recommended immunizations/medications. 
  • Each traveler under 25 years of age must be accompanied by an adult over 30 years of age.
  • Trip itinerary may be modified due to civil disturbances, strikes, safety reasons, natural disasters, and/or weather conditions.
  • Professor Solosky is on the tour 24/7 keeping the tour on pace and making sure all goes as planned.
  • Airfare to/from the traveler’s home city is not included.  
  • Flights should be booked into Cusco (unless doing the Lima extension) and return from Puerto Maldonado, Peru (PEM). The Professor will help you in finding the best airfare.
  • A $500 per person deposit holds your spot.

How to Book

  • Within 5 days, follow up with a $500 deposit per person made to TRAVELING PROFESSOR LLC and send to TRAVELING PROFESSOR, 3965 COTTON GIN RD, FRISCO TX 75034.
