It is always interesting to stay in Florence. I prefer the smaller, family-owned hotels. They are friendlier and more intimate than the larger chain hotels. In this blog post, I talk about two quality hotels, in great locations in Florence.
Il Guelfo Bianco: On our The Traveling Professor small group tours to Italy, we always stay at the Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco. Our host, Antonella, makes sure everything is perfect for our guests when we arrive. Rooms are large and well-decorated. The location cannot be beat, only a stone's throw from David at the Accademia. The family-run restaurant at the hotel is small but popular, serving fresh and organic products grown at their own farm.
Hotel Davanzati: The Davanzati has been in Florence for quite some time. I never feel more like family than I do here. It is in a central location, but much different from the Il Guelfo Bianco, being situated almost on the other side of town. The rooms are classically decorated, so there is no mistaking you are in the center of Florence. The Hotel Davanzati is famous for its Happy Hour, each night from 6:30. Enjoy a prosecco or a Chianti and meet the other guests. Book quickly, it sells out fast. The only downside to the Davanzati is that in true Florentine style, the hotel requires travelers to walk up and down a flight of stairs to get to the hotel.
