The basic strategy for getting bargain airfares to Europe is to not fly during peak season and to fly to/from bargain gateway cities.

For instance, from North America, it is probably going to be cheaper to fly out of New York or Canada (Toronto or Montreal) and get to any city in Spain like Madrid or Barcelona, Paris or Edinburgh/Glasgow.  There are cities in Italy, Milan comes to mind where very inexpensive fares can be found.

Here are some examples:

  • October 3-11 between JFK and Milan.  $460 R/T non-stop. Economy.  Delta Airlines.
  • October 27-November 7 between JFK and Milan.  $945 non stop R/T.  Premium Economy. American Airlines
  • October 1-9 between JFK and Paris CDG.  $1015 non stop R/T.  Premium Economy.  American Airlines. Go in Economy class with Delta for a shockingly low $345.
  • October 17-24 between JFK and Madrid MAD.  Shocking!  $234 for Basic Economy, $398 for Economy Coach, $943 for Premium Economy.  All R/T fares
  • September 12-20 between Toronto YYZ and Glasgow.  $724 R/T on Air Canada. Economy.
