Here is the advice I always give my small group tour travelers, when flying on an international flight in order to get through the security line fast.
Enroll in TSA Pre-Check: Special lines are set up for those travelers in TSA Pre-Check that move faster than the other lines. Travelers don't need to remove laptops or shoes.
Use Plastic Bags: Anything and everything that I think might be flagged as I go through security goes in a plastic bag. It works a lot better than just grabbing random items and throwing them in the tray. I lift the bag out, put it on the tray, and then pick up the bag and put it back in my carry-on.
Go for Small Airports: When I can, I fly out of a smaller airport like Hartford's BDL or Chattanooga (CHA). Security lines are much shorter than those giant airport like LAX or JFK.
Cooperate: Always be polite and cooperate with TSA agents. The overwhelming majority of TSA agents are professional and courteous, but on those busy travel days things might get tense. You are much better off to cooperate, no matter what, in order to avoid further delays.
VIP Services: Take the hassle out of traveling and be escorted through security and onto the plane. It's not as expensive as you think it is. Check out Gateway VIP Service.
