Foods I Won't Eat While Traveling Abroad

Tripe:  Defined as "edible offal from the stomachs of various farm animals", this dish is not for me.   It is found all over the place in Italy.   They cook it for hours (maybe days) and serve it in soup bowls and on sandwiches.  The food in Italy is great, but tripe is not for me.

Beef hearts:  This Peruvian favorite is not my favorite but given the choice between tripe and beef heart, I'll take the beef heart.  By the way, cuy (guinea pig) is another Peruvian favorite and its not that bad.

Andouille sausage:   I find this on the menu in Paris all the time.   Think of the gamiest meat you have ever tasted and this is even gamier.  Just as bad (or worse) is tête de veau.  I don't like my meal looking back at me.

Pickled Herring:  It's probably delicious but because I was force-fed it as a child from my Norwegian grandmother, just the smell of it sours my stomach.

Hákarl is cured shark and is an Icelandic traditional dish.  The process involves burying it for a few months then hanging it out to dry. It smells disgusting and tastes worse.  Don't eat it.

On my first trip to London about 20 years ago, all the food seemed inedible.  British foods have taken great strides but stay away from black pudding (made from blood) and jellied eels.
