The Traveling Professor Presents a Preview Tour of Norway and Iceland 2015
PRELIMINARY ITINERARY 

Day 1:  Arrival in Oslo
Guided City Tour and Dinner. Hotel in Central Oslo for 2 nights.  For those of you on the June tour in Oslo we are using the Boersparken Hotel.  On the July tour we use the Oslo Scandic City.  At about 4 pm, we will have a 2-3 hour guided tour of Oslo followed by dinner. 

Day 2:  Oslo
Free admission to all 30 major and GOOD attractions such as Munch Museum, Ibsen Museum,  Holocaust Center, Historical Museum,  National Gallery, Museum of Decorative Arts & Design, National Museum of Architecture, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Norwegian Folk Museum, Nobel Peace Center, Natural History Museum, Kon-Tiki Museum, Viking Ship Museum.   In addition to free attraction admission, all Oslo city public transportation (bus, tram, metro, boat) is included.  Oslo is an extremely interesting city.  It is clean, uncrowded compared to other European cities, and will remind you of US cities like Chicago.   It is a great opportunity for you to explore the city, on your own if you wish, and enjoy a beautiful day in Oslo.

Day 3:  Myrdal and Flam
We depart from Oslo to Myrdal via train on a wonderfully relaxing high speed train ride winding through lakes, forests, and mountains of Norway.  Then, we take the most beautiful train ride in the world from the mountaintop to sea level at the Sognefjord in Flam on the Flamsbana Railway.   Check-in at the outstanding Fretheim Hotel just steps from the train station.   We’ll meet in the fireplace-lit atrium to help plan the next full day in Flam then enjoy an authentic Norwegian buffet in the stunning dining room.  Fretheim Hotel in Flam.

Day 4:  Flam
Enjoy your day in Flam at the edge of the Sognefjord.  Spend the day taking photographs, visiting the remote village of Aurland, preparing an authentic salmon lunch, hiking the easy adjacent trails or join The Professor on an exciting downhill bike ride down the mountains passing waterfalls and majestic scenery.  

Day 5:  Cruising the Fjords
Depart Flam in the morning for another spectacular day as we head to Bergen by a combination of ferry, bus, and train.  A 2.5 hour cruise of the Norwegian fjords will blow you away!  It will be an experience you will talk about for years to come.  We arrive in Gudvangen where we will take a scenic bus ride to Voss where we board the train for another spectacular countryside view of Norway as we head into the seaport of Bergen. Day 6:  Bergen
Full day in Bergen.   A short guided city tour will start the day.   Spend the rest of the day visiting markets or the other attractions of Bergen.  Museum admission is provided.  

Day 7:  Iceland
Departure for Iceland.  Check in at Reykjavik Hotel, the Holt Hotel.

Day 8:  Iceland
Guided 9 hour tour of the Golden Circle of Iceland.   The Gullfoss double waterfall, geyser hot springs, and the ancient Viking Parliament area of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  

Day 9:  Iceland
Guided 11 hour tour of the South Shore.   We will visit glaciers, waterfalls, bird cliffs and lava beaches.  We’ll see the famous  Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the 60 meter high Skógafoss waterfall, and the narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
