Here are The Traveling Professor's picks for inexpensive hotels in Paris:
Hôtel Prince Albert Louvre. For those museum snobs looking for a place to sleep cheap in a terrific location, this is the place to be. It’s within easy walking distance of the Louvre, Tuileries, rue St. Honoré shopping, and the Opéra, this 2-star with rates from 90-170 euros might be in your future. Located at 5, rue Saint Hyacinthe in the desirable 1st arrondissement. Hôtel de la Tour Eiffel.Dream away in the shadow of the ET. Cute but small rooms just a 5-minute walk from the Tower and near some of my favorite restaurants on rue Saint-Dominique. Rates range from 90-150 euros. Located on a quiet side street at 17, rue de l'Exposition in the 7th. Hôtel de Nice. Some have a love/hate relationship with the hodgepodge decorating of this 3-star, but it overlooks a cute café-lined square across from the Hotel de Ville in the Marais at 42, bis rue de Rivoli in the 4th arrondissement. Excellent location. Doubles from 100-200 euros. Hôtel Cluny Sorbonne. Latin Quarter 2-star poetry located so close to the Sorbonne, some rooms look into student classrooms at the famous university. A crowd-pleaser at 8, rue Victor Cousin is situated well for bus, métro, and RER connections. It’s near the Panthéon and Luxembourg Gardens. Rates from 75 to 125 euros. Website: www.hotel-cluny.fr. Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc. You won’t get burned at this quiet little 2-star near the Place de Vosges in the Marais. Located at 3, rue de Jarente in the 4th arrondissement this cozy spot offers 35 rooms with French country-house décor at rates of 81 to 121 euros for twin/double rooms. Note: not to be confused with the Grand Hotel Jeanne d’Arc.
