After doing 20+ small group tours to Peru and Machu Picchu, The Traveling Professor has come up a list, for both men and women, of what to pack on a trip to Peru and Machu Picchu: 

PACKING LIST

On the plane I usually have light pants or jeans, shirt, light jacket, and my hiking boots/shoes on.  I carry on a backpack that fits under the seat in front of me.  The backpack has my camera, phone, chargers, passport (in plastic baggie), notebook computer, pen, notebook computer and a deck of playing cards.  Special electrical adaptors may be necessary.
Dress is always casual in Peru.  This is what will be in my carry on:

• 2 pairs of hiking shorts
• 4 t-shirts, one or two of them being long sleeve
• 1 button down, Oxford type shirt
• 1 long sleeve, mock turtle neck shirt
• 3 pairs of thick, comfortable hiking  socks, 3 pairs of lighter athletic socks
• 6 pairs of underwear 
• 1 umbrella purchased from the “dollar store”
• Band-aids
• 40 SPF minimum sun block and lip balm with sun block (can be purchased in Peru)
• Bug spray (can also be purchased in Peru)
• 1 pair of sandals
• Poncho
• 1 pair binoculars
• Hand sanitizer liquid (can be purchased in Peru)
• 1 guide book
• Medications (always bring more than needed in case of trip delays)
• 3 plastic supermarket shopping bags (I use them to protect items in my backpack from rain)
• Extra pair of eyeglasses
• Sunglasses
• Baseball cap or hat
• Small daypack
• Earplugs and eye cover
• Toiletries:  razors, dental floss, toothbrush & toothpaste, hairspray, comb, moisturizer, bar soap.  Liquids must be in small, travel-approved containers. 
• Printed documentation of hotel and airline reservation
• 4 photocopies of my passport with emergency contact info, hotel info, and medical conditions written on back.
• Plastic baggies to protect passports and electronics from wet weather.
• Some items may be shared between 2 people.
