Don't Go to Paris in June:  This is the hardest month to find hotel bargains.  Conventions, fashion shows, trade shows, the Roland Garros Tennis Tournament along with high tourist demand make this the most difficult month to find hotel bargains.  A great month for hotel bargains is August, as many Parisians are on holiday and luxury business hotels offer discounts to fill those empty rooms.

Bypass the Booking Engines:  Did you know hotels pay booking sites about a 20% commission?  So, if you see a price of 200 euros listed as a price on Expedia, Orbitz, Booking.com, contact the hotel directly and request a lower price.  If they won't negotiate price, try to get perks like a room upgrade or free breakfast.  I NEVER pay what is advertised on a website or booking engine. I always get a better deal.  The only thing booking engines are good for is finding a baseline for hotel rates.

Guarantee Payment:  If booking directly with the hotel, offer a guaranteed, non-refundable payment along with an offer for a lower price.

Hoteliers Value Personal Relationships:  If you like a hotel, make it a point to speak with the management and compliment him/her and their staff for a wonderful stay.  Tell them you are interested in booking again next time.  Email the management directly with your request, asking for their best rate available.  Once you have stayed at a hotel you like, post a positive review on Tripadvisor. When mailing management for your next stay, include a link to that Tripadvisor review.
