According to the Global Peace Index, Iceland is the safest place to travel in the world. The Traveling Professor runs small group tours to Iceland and I can attest to the fact that Iceland is a peaceful country, with few incidents of violent or petty crime. Travelers feel safe and confident when traveling to Iceland.
Another place listed in the Top 10 of safest places to travel is Austria. Again, The Traveling Professor runs small group tours to Austria and we find it to be very safe.
Surprisingly, the United States is NOT ranked as one of the Top 10, or even Top 25 safest places in the world. Here is the ranking, according to the Global Peace Index:
