Whether traveling alone or on a small group tour with The Traveling Professor, look into using one of the 3 discount airlines to Europe:

Icelandair:  This airline operates almost like a legacy carrier but the fares are a bargain.  Like carriers like American and Delta, it allows flyers to accumulate points for free flights.  It has airport lounges as well as offering premium seating on flights.  However, the fares are rock bottom.  But the big advantage to Icelandair is that they offer a FREE stopover in Reykjavik for up to 7 days on a round trip flight to Europe.

Norwegian Air:  With one of the newest fleets in the air, this airline provides top-notch service between the USA and Europe at a fraction of the cost.

XL Airways:  I recommend this airline for service between the USA and Paris.  Great fares to the Caribbean too!
