Here are The Traveling Professor's picks for hotels in Padua:
Hotel Belludi 37: Perfect location just near the tram and opposite the Basilica of St. Anthony's. Rooms are spacious, breakfast is hearty. The hotel is contemporary in style, nicely decorated in warm colors. The staff is terrific too. I like the close location to good restaurants on the largest piazza in Italy, the Prato della Valle.
Albergo Verdi: More of a budget hotel but in another great location nonetheless. Not far from the small and perfect Palazzo Liviano (I have a great lunch spot for you) and even better, the Piazza dei Signori, the best piazza for dinner in all of Italy. It is closer to the center of the main attractions in Padua (Duomo, Palazzo della Ragione, Piazza delle Erbe, and Piazza della Frutta) it is not as conveniently located to transportation as the other two hotels listed here. However, you will find a great value for your clean, comfortable, and quiet room with a helpful staff.
Majestic Hotel Toscanelli: This is where I am staying on my next tour to Padua. It deserves its 4-star rating but better yet, it is the best situated hotel for touring in Padua. Rooms are large and a good value compared to 4-star hotels in Venice or Florence. It is within easy access to good restaurants and transportation to and from the train station.
