We returned from a small group tour to Iceland after visiting Copenhagen and Norway. There are a lot of things to like about Iceland:
Waterfalls: There are waterfalls big and small. Should I say "very big" waterfalls. But what I found special were the falls that were hidden away from the crowds that we found that we were able to enjoy all on our own.
Crowds: Despite being the hottest spot in travel these days, we found the crowds not to be overwhelming. That may not be true in the future, but that was our experience.
People: Although service in Iceland can be a little on the slow side, we found the people to be more than friendly. They spoke English well and were very helpful. We were fortunate enough to be there during the Euro Cup (soccer tournament) in which we were able to watch the Icelandic matches in a fan zone set up in the main square of Reykjavik. As happy as the crowd was, we saw no evidence of rowdyism or bad behavior.
Glaciers/Volcanoes/Geysers/Black Sand Beaches/Puffins: We saw all of this stunning natural beauty over 2 days of visiting.
Food: I don't think fresher fish can be found anywhere. We loved the trendy new restaurants and eating spots.
Getting There and Back: It was a short 5 hour plane ride from Boston to Reykjavik. And it was cheap, too! About $850 for a coach class seat. Upgrade to premium class on Icelandair for about $450 more.
