Travelers came from all over the Americas to join The Traveling Professor on a small group tour of 12 travelers to Norway and Iceland.
The Professor arrived from Copenhagen via ferry to the Boersparken Hotel. Perfectly located for seeing the city, travelers liked its open spaces, terrific breakfast, pleasant service. The room size was a bit above average for Europe hotels with a smaller size shower than we usually see. However, all in all, we liked the hotel very much.
After everyone got settled in and checked in, we started off with a 3-hour professionally guided walking tour of Oslo, highlighting the best sites and getting oriented. I have to say, having a professional guide adds so much more to a tour. Guides are extremely knowledgeable and comment on the history, culture, and current trends going on in the city. Our guide was good at telling us about specific historical buildings and the stories behind them. That night we ate at Stormkjonnet and see my review on Tripadvisor.
Every traveler had their own "Oslo Pass" giving them free transportation and free admission to nearly every museum and attraction in Oslo. Because of their orientation to the city, every travelers spent the next day on their own. Most took the ferry over to the Norwegian Folk Museum and Viking Museum. There was plenty of time to see the Munch's, Monet's and other famous artists in The National Gallery. The Kon-Tiki and Munch Museum as well as the stunning Opera house was visited by some others. They liked the ability to pick and choose on their own where to go and the ability to get their easily and efficiently.
Oslo is a wonderful and relaxed city. Even though it was peak visiting season, we did not feel the press of the crowds like we have seen in other European cities.
The next day, after a big breakfast, we prepared for the train to Flam. See my next trip report tomorrow.
