First of all, I bring two things on the plane.  My REI Wheely Beast Duffel which I will put in the overhead bin, and I as my carry-on I will take a small Eddie Bauer Trailhead backpack.

In my Wheely Beast duffel I will pack:

  • 2-3 pairs shorts
  • 3 t-shirts
  • 1 short sleeve Oxford shirt
  • 1 long-sleeve Oxford shirt
  • 2 golf shirts
  • 7 pairs underwear
  • Baseball cap
  • 1 pair flip-flops
  • 3 pairs socks
  • Extra pair glasses/sunglasses
  • small umbrella
  • Italy guide book
  • Writing materials
  • If I have room: I might pack one more shirt

In my backpack:

  • Toiletries:  razor, bar soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, meds (I always pack extra in case my trip is delayed), dental floss
  • Trip documents: lodging/travel/guide info.  Passport copy.  Medical and personal contact info.
  • Electronics:  camera, cellphone, laptop, chargers, batteries, pen, noise cancelling earphones
  • Personal items:  ear plugs, eye cover
  • Extra days clothes (underwear, t-shirt)

Notes:

  • I will be wearing jeans, shoes, shirt, light jacket on the plane.
  • Our hotel in Florence (mid-point in our trip) has a laundry service where my clothes will be laundered.
  • I have an older packing video on my website.   It is a few years old but it has thousands of YouTube views.
  • We have heard of items being stolen out of carry-on bags on planes.  I always put a lock on my carry-on.
