4 years ago, it costs about $1.40 to purchase a euro.   Today, it is about $1.09 to get that same euro.   In recent years it has been as high as $1.57 to purchase a euro and recently is has even gone down to $1.05.  

Savings on currencies like the Norwegian Krone are even more significant.

Even adjusted for inflation, it is obvious that there are great savings to be found in euro-based countries today.

To put it in better perspective, if someone generously spent $2750 in 2011 on a 7-10 day vacation in Paris or Italy, that same vacation would only cost $1,964 today, a savings of $786.    I will leave it up to you to determine if that is a significant savings or not.
