  • Trip itinerary may be modified due to civil disturbances, strikes, safety reasons, natural disasters, and/or weather conditions
  • Airfare to/from the traveler’s home city is not included.  Flights should be booked into Cusco (LIM) and return from Puerto Maldonado, Peru (PEM)

Detailed Tentative 8-Day, 7-Night Itinerary

Day 1:      Arrive in vibrant Cusco, Peru from your home city.   This ancient city of the Incas is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Acclimate to the 11,200 foot altitude with a walking tour of the city center, the Plaza de Armas and a local market like never seen before.   That evening, meet get to know your travel companions and enjoy world-renowned Peruvian cuisine, included with the tour.

 

Day2:       A full day, professionally guided and private VIP tour of Cusco and the surrounding area.   See the Main Square, Cathedral, and Qoricancha (Sun Temple). The tour drives along the outskirts of the city up to famous fortress of Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay ruins. 

 

Day 3:      Journey by train through the heart of the Sacred Valley along the twisting whitewater Urubamba River into the cloud forest of Peru. The 2 ½ hour adventure to the outpost town of Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu, is nothing short of spectacular.  An in-depth professionally guided tour of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu is on the day’s itinerary.

 

Day 4:      Arise early for a guided hike along the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate for an awe-inspiring sunrise at Machu Picchu.  Overlooking the mystical citadel from the Sun Gate is perhaps the most scenic vista in the world.  It is an experience to talk about and show photos to everyone you know for years to come.  In the afternoon, relax or explore the flowers, fauna, butterflies, birds and other wildlife on private nature trails.  We can state with confidence that no other tour company covers the Machu Picchu area like we do.

 

Day 5:      It’s back on the train to Ollantaytambo for a tour of the Sacred Valley.   We’ll visit unbelievable ancient ruins, have a memorable lunch at a spa on the Urubamba River and visit the world-famous Pisac market on our way back to Cusco to spend the night.

 

Day 6-7:         We depart for our Amazon Jungle/Rain Forest adventure in the morning and fly to Puerto Maldonado.  Our 3-day, 2-night itinerary includes  

·          Inkaterra Reserva Amozonica:  the most highly regarded all-inclusive eco-lodge in the Peruvian Amazon rain forest.  Luxury accommodations with all meals, excursions and activities included.

·          Excursions: Each traveler chooses from up to 12 different excursions of varying difficulty levels with a professional guide at the lead.  This is the full first-class jungle/rain forest experience.   Excursions include birding, river tours, astronomy, rain forest by day or night, medicinal plants, canoeing, fishing, native plants/flowers, and more.  Before the trip, we will detail each excursion so you can pick the best programs for you.

Day 8:      Depart Puerto Maldonado for home or optional add-on tour to Lima or Nazca lines.   Travelers have the option of staying extra days in the rain forest.
